Sleepy Saturday 11/1

I have seen this picture on my facebook, twice on my instagram and countless times on tumblr. Decided it would be a good topic for my sleepy (random) Saturday post.

This picture was posted on instagram, probably but a ton of people but three famous women. First is the model, Kate Willcox, I mentioned last Saturday. Then model Kate Upton and makeup artist Bobbi Brown. Reading the comments is amazing because it is literally a back and forth of fat shaming and skinny shaming.

I should mention the top picture is an ad for Victoria's Secret new bra which boasts that it has a perfect type for everyone. Now, I don't think by any means showing thin, leggy models was a coincidence. I do think it was meant to be a subliminal kind of message but sticking to the facts it is an advertisement for bras.

Beneath the ad is a group of women of all sizes. While I do find the message to be shaming thin people slightly, the whole point of the second picture it showing that the perfect body is everyone all shapes, all colors, all heights, all weights. It's everyone. Instead of looking it that way people are fighting back and forth:

"Being fat isn't honorable"

"Because they're fuckin fat, workout and better yourself."

"So now you're supporting obesity?"

"Unhealthy fatties"

"Ugh the top ones look anorexic."

"Eww they are sickly looking."

"The fat girls just need their attention if they want to be pretty then they need to get less fat, They can't even wear a bra because their nasty fat will show."

"Perfection is not being skinny or plus size. Perfection is working your ass off for your body and being fit, this means starving yourself is not perfect and neither is being lazy with your body."

It kills me reading some of the comments and really makes me sick because body types change. You may be a size 2 in your 20's and a size 20 when you're in your 40's. If you have a beautiful personality, use your brain and are a kind person the size of your pants will never matter to me. HEALTH is the most important fact in life and being too skinny is not healthy just like being overweight isn't healthy. Nobody even knows what fat really is anymore, our society is so warped in their goal to achieve perfection when that doesn't even exist. What happened to wanting to have a successful career, or a family? What happened to wanting to make good grades instead of being able to fit society, or a guy or even your friend's idea of beauty? I cannot believe how shallow and hateful some people were in the comments. To be anorexic  TECHNICALLY is when you are a certain percentage below the average weight for someone your age and height. Realistically, it's a mental disease that isn't defined by a percentage. To be called obese, a lot of people go by their BMI but that can be incorrect as well because it doesn't take into account how much muscle weighs. John Cena....The Rock, do you all know them? Big time wrestlers and actors?

The Rock is 6'5 and while his weight fluctuates for movies, he averages 260lbs. Does he look fat to you? Well his BMI is 30.8 and a BMI of 30 and above puts you at morbidly obese.  Maybe I need my eyes checked because I don't see it. Do you?

John Cena is 6'1 and 251lbs. How about him? Consider him fat? His BMI is 33.1. What do you know he's morbidly obese too!!!

My point is judge your health. I know being overweight isn't healthy but it doesn't mean you're knocking on death's doorstep. Someone that smokes a pack of cigarettes a day and drinks alcohol constantly aren't healthier than someone  that weighs a bit more than them.

Really we just need to stop focusing so much on others and how they look, hating them for being too big or too small, big breast or small breast, thigh gap or no gap. Worry about yourself, and your life. It would be a lot less stressful.

  1. so glad you posted this. women are beautiful and strong, and come in all shapes and sizes. we should not judge on outward looks but concentrate on character more. women should build up and support each other, not tear each other down because of sizse.

  2. There is beauty in all shapes and sizes. Neither extreme is beautiful unless you are naturally born that way. Walking is good for you - running is not once you become an adult. It's hard on the joints, breasts and face. Neither is excessive exercise.
